ASA JACKSON

​Asa Jackson is an American multidisciplinary artist and arts leader based in North Carolina. Working primarily with deconstructed garments, reclaimed textiles, and corduroy, Jackson transforms materials that have been worn and lived in into layered compositions that carry traces of personal and collective histories. Through his ongoing King’s Cord series, Jackson constructs abstract landscapes and imagined territories that reflect the relationship between internal and external worlds. These compositions propose sovereignty as both an inherent condition of being and an active process in which each individual possesses the capacity to envision, create, and inhabit a world of their own.

Most recently he has exhibited nationally and internationally at Les Yeux du Monde in Charlottesville, Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery in Luxembourg, Circle Contemporary Gallery in the United Kingdom, and the Harvey B. Gantt Center in Charlotte, as well as presentations at EXPO Chicago and Art Brussels. His work is held in prominent collections, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Mint Museum, the Capital One Corporate Collection, the University of Virginia, and The Rockwell Museum.

Beyond his studio practice, Jackson is the co-founder of CAN Foundation, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to building sustainable careers for the creative class. He served on the Virginia Commission for the Arts from 2018 to 2023, including a term as chair, and became President and CEO of McColl Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, in January 2025.
